MEMORIAL MUSTER
Oct 30th, 2016 - Sulman Park
Mt Panorama, Bathurst, NSW.
The inaugural Memorial Muster 2016 is about honoring, preserving and raising awareness of the final resting place of fallen NSW police officers & historically significant sites & objects of NSW Police Force, through a car Rally.
Participants are encouraged to visit the memorials to officers killed on duty before meeting at Sulman Park, Mount Panorama Bathurst for a BBQ and catch up. There will be a several routes covering the state, each including a number of sites. You may choose to do the entire route and make a weekend of it, or simply visit sites nearby your home or around Bathurst. Either way its about raising awareness and interest, and your involvement will make this possible.
The various routes can be found at the Grave sites tab from the Home page. It may be that you can link up sites from several routes that suits you best. What we ask is that any site you do visit you take a photograph of the whole grave from the foot end, a close up of the headstone and get a GPS location. We would also like to see a general comment about the grave including its condition etc so we can prioritize our efforts towards the sites in most need of attention. This information will be collated with a view of constructing a virtual memorial to the grave sites of these officers.
Its appreciated that not everyone can cover all the sites listed, but we ask that you make a contribution to the effort, be it large or small. Even around the Bathurst District there are numerous graves of officers from Colonial and more modern times.
The primary objective of the first year is to direct funds towards the identification, care and maintenance of grave sites and memorials that have fallen into disrepair, particularly those graves of significant age that are no longer being tended to. Most importantly to also identify those sites that are unmarked or unidentified.
In what is hoped to be an annual gathering, the Muster is intended to be a casual & fun event, open to all ages, held in a secure environment in the Regional NSW town of Bathurst within a District that is rich in policing history. We particularly encourage families to participate and be part of the preservation and recognition of our policing history.
